&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Wear spandex shorts under your regular running shorts so you don’t chafe&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Cotton socks will only lead to blisters; invest in socks designed for running.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Join your local running club—check with your local running store fitness center and/or recreation department to find one&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Find a committed running partner. It is much harder to skip a run when you have someone else depending on you&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Remember that- It gets easier.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Accept and appreciate the fact that not every single run can be a good one&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Do not compare yourself to others. Run within yourself and for yourself first.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Even a bad run is better then no run at all&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If you normally run with music try skipping it and listening to your feet to hear your pace and your gait&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Don’t be discouraged if you don’t experience weight loss immediately&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Start a running blog, to see your progress and set goals&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Hydrate. Make it a habit to drink water throughout the day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;On long runs eat something every hour—whether you feel like it or not&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;During longer runs if you don’t like to carry water take some cash in your pocket pouch or a shoe wallet. Run a route where there’s a corner store that you can use as a pit stop to pick up your water and maybe use the bathroom&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To aid recovery the most crucial time to eat and drink is in the hour immediately after you run&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Use Vaseline or BodyGlide wherever things rub. They will help prevent blisters and chafing&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Do not increase your mileage more than 10 percent per week&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If you are prone to shin splints and lower leg pain try running soft trails for your Training runs and save the asphalt for race day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Do not run two hard days back-to-back&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Ice aches and pains immediately&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Pay attention to your form. Try to run lightly to minimize impact that could lead to injury&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;When running don’t forget the bug spray, sunscreen and a hat- BIG TIME!&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Neosporin (or another antibiotic cream) is good for chafed areas&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Make sure you cut your toenails short enough so they don’t jam into your Shoes&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Be careful about running on paths that force you to run consistently on a slant. It’s hard on the hips knees&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Don’t stretch before a run. Warm up by walking briskly or jogging slowly for several minutes&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Do not ice for more than 20 minutes at a time&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;For beginners, set mini goals to keep you motivated. (Can be minutes [run 5, walk 10], run between street lights then walk between street lights, run till the next bus stop, until you pass a car on the street)&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Do not use the hot tub after a race. It will increase inflammation and hinder healing&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Be aware of cyclists approaching you from behind and try to keep to the right. Try to pay special attention when running with music&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Run facing traffic.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Never assume a car sees you&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Doubleknot your shoe laces so they will not come undone when you run\&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If you listen to music, put earbuds in the go inside your ear, if you are usuing the ones that sit in your ear, it will fall out&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Buy yourself some actual running shoes from an actual running store because running in junk “sneakers” will destroy your feet and your legs&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;At first keep your runs short and slow to avoid injury and soreness so you do not quit.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If you are breathing too hard slow down or walk a bit until you feel comfortable again&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Pick your route close to home (out your front door)—the more convenient it is the better chance you will have sticking with it.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Set realistic short term and long term goals&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Remember Soreness one to two days after a run is normal (delayed onset muscle soreness).&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;There’s no shame in walking&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Four laps around the local the high school track equals one mile&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Vary your training routes. This will prevent boredom and prevent your body from getting acclimated&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Push through rough spots by focusing on the sounds of your breath and feet touching the ground&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Do abdominal breathing to get rid of side cramps&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Run on trails if at all possible. It will be easier on your body and you’ll love it&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Dress as if it is 10 degrees warmer than the temperature on the thermometer&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Run early in the morning or later in evening to avoid mid-day heat&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To keep cool in hot weather soak a bandana in cold water wring it out a bit and tie it loosely around your neck&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;In the winter dress in layers (coolmax or other technical clothing) and wear a headband over your running hat to cover your ears&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I was walking towards my school and I see a man walking out of an alley behind an appartment building with a stroller, he’s wearing a suit, he’s walking behind an old woman so he’s passes her and goes in front of her, eventually I pass the woman and I pass the man I keep walking and I have my headphones on then I can sense the guy behind me&lt;br/&gt; Getting closer so I imagine he wants to pass so I slow down to let him pass but the man stays beside me and starts talking to me I take my headphones off and he says: you’re very beautiful, I put them back on and walk faster to get away he speeds up and starts talking to me again and&lt;br/&gt; Asked me if I was a fahsion designer (yeah, right?) and I say no and I speed up again and he catches up this goes on and he keeps asking questions like where do you go what do you study in, what do you work. I answered with: I go to high school (thinking about it maybe I should&amp;#8217;ve said I was like 15 or something to turn him off) anyway he just kept at it and eventually he left.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The second incident I was walking back from choir it&amp;#8217;s around 5:45 and it was a couple of weeks after the first incident so I totally forgot about it.  I&amp;#8217;m walking and I hear a stroller behind me and I thought it was a woman and her baby so I slow down to let them pass. Obviously it was not a woman it was the same guy (this time I checked and there was a little girl in the stroller) he was wearing a t-shirt and jeans. He said: Hello I think we&amp;#8217;ve met before? And I said: yes and I tried to speed up but obviously he was having none of that. He asked me how I was and made an effort to seem somewhat friendly. But he was asking me questions like: What&amp;#8217;s your name? I lied and said it was Catherine I asked him for his he said it was Salvi (Salvee?) he was from south of India, he had an indian accent (not to thick but you could tell) he was about from 5&amp;#8217;7 to 5&amp;#8217;9. Anyway he asked me things like: what do you do, do you work out? What do you study in what do you want to study in? And then he asked me the obvious question I saw coming: Do you live around here? I infact did NOT live in that neighberhood so I said that yes I lived around there. Eventually he said: Well nice to see you again and gave out his hand to me. I decided to shake it because, well it&amp;#8217;s a hand shake but he took me by suprise and landed a kiss on my cheek. I was so stunned, I walked away without saying anything and he said&amp;#160;: You&amp;#8217;re very beautiful (in total he said that about 9 times if I count the first encounter) and then he yelled from behind me as I&amp;#8217;m clearly walking and getting away from him: Do you want my number? And I said: No that I didn&amp;#8217;t take numbers. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Later a friend had told me that I should&amp;#8217;ve accepted and taken his number to give it to the police but I really wanted to make it clear that I was NOT interested in him incase if taking his number would&amp;#8217;ve given mixed signals.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;That night I told my boyfriend about it and he told me to tell me parents which I did (their advice was various self-defense tricks and telling the police on facebook about it) So I did that and then someone commented on my post on facebook and gave me a number to call to report it. I did that the next morning (Thursday morning) the cop went to school to meet me and take in the report. I told him what happened and I was a little bit nervous about telling the police in case I didn&amp;#8217;t make it clear enough to this guy that I wasn&amp;#8217;t interested and that I was in the wrong. But the police officer was very nice and said that I did the right thing and if he approached me again to dial 911 and hang up and they will dispatch police in my location where I am. He filed the report under: Sexual Assault. I didn&amp;#8217;t ask him but I&amp;#8217;m guessing that if they see this guy they won&amp;#8217;t be able to arrest him since there was not witness to this. But if it happens to another woman this can be something to dig up for proof for someone else. As for now, I just walk by a different route and don&amp;#8217;t wear my headphones anymore to make sure I can hear if there&amp;#8217;s a stroller behind me. As for the little girl he paid no attention to her I&amp;#8217;m pretty sure he was bringing her to the daycare place but for all I know it could be his niece or his friends daughter. He also said he was a consultant he didn&amp;#8217;t specify so that for me shows that he&amp;#8217;s lying. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Anyway it creeped me out and I hope this won&amp;#8217;t happen to someone else.
